A cloudburst struck the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir early Saturday morning, between 2:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m., causing significant damage to residential structures and other properties. Officials confirmed that no casualties or injuries occurred from this sudden disaster.

Responding promptly, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Chatroo, along with police and civil administration teams, reached the affected zone to assess the damage and coordinate relief efforts. Restoration work began immediately to help residents recover from the impacts of this natural calamity.

This event followed a period of persistent rainfall that had battered the region, with the Meteorological Department previously forecasting intense showers and potential flash floods for Jammu and Kashmir. They had issued warnings about landslides, mudslides, and waterlogging in at-risk areas, underscoring the need for caution among residents.

In a related incident, heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging in Pahlipora, Shopian, also situated in Jammu and Kashmir. Reports indicated that rainwater inundated multiple homes, prompting the deployment of police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel to facilitate rescue and relief operations. Local authorities are working diligently to manage the situation and assist affected families.

Officials have alerted residents living in low-lying areas and those prone to landslides to exercise heightened caution amid these weather conditions. They have advised individuals to avoid areas near streams, nallahs, and unstable slopes until conditions improve.

The circumstances in Chatroo remain under close observation as officials gather further details and continue their work in the aftermath of the cloudburst. Efforts to restore normalcy in the affected areas are expected to increase as the weather stabilizes.

Local authorities urge the public to stay informed and prepared, as weather forecasts suggest the possibility of further rain in the coming days. Residents are encouraged to heed official advisories to ensure their safety during these unpredictable weather events.
