Jammu’s Rajat Charak Shines at 10th Sanda World Cup with Silver Medal Win

Rajat Charak, a gifted Wushu athlete from Jammu, made the country proud by clinching a silver medal in the 85 kg category at the 10th Sanda World Cup 2025 held in Jiangyin, China. Rajat showcased immense grit and determination throughout the tournament, though he narrowly lost to his Australian opponent in a hard-fought final bout.

Despite the final setback, Rajat’s silver marked a proud moment for India and especially for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, reinforcing the region’s rising status in the global martial arts arena.

India’s Strong Medal Tally: 1 Gold, 5 Silvers

Team India delivered an impressive performance at the prestigious international event, securing a total of six medals1 Gold and 5 Silvers.

  • Chhavi claimed Silver in the 48 kg women’s category after a spirited match against Vietnam.
  • Kushal Kumar earned Silver in the 48 kg men’s category, fighting bravely against China.
  • Anuj added to the tally with a Silver in the 52 kg category, also against Vietnam.
  • Ravi Panchal battled in the 65 kg category, securing Silver following a challenging match with China.
  • The highlight of India’s campaign was Mukesh Choudhary, who clinched Gold in the 75 kg category, defeating France in a thrilling final.

Rising Stars of Indian Wushu

The performance reflects the growing strength and global presence of Indian Wushu. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee and national coach, praised the athletes’ dedication and noted that sportspeople from Jammu and Kashmir, such as Rajat Charak, are poised to make a mark in upcoming international tournaments and the Asian Games.

“Rajat’s silver is a testimony to the potential and talent emerging from Jammu and Kashmir. We are confident of seeing many more podium finishes in the near future,” Handoo said.

India’s impressive run at the Sanda World Cup reaffirms its rising stature in the world of martial arts and sets a strong precedent for future competitions.
