Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been slapped with a ₹24 lakh fine after his team was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during their match against Gujarat Titans in Match No. 23 of the TATA IPL 2025, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Wednesday.

The Royals suffered a 58-run defeat in the high-scoring clash. Chasing a daunting target of 218, they were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs.

The IPL released a statement on Thursday confirming the penalty under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences. This marks Samson’s second such offence of the season.

“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate… As this was his team’s second offence of the season, Samson was fined ₹24 lakh,” the statement read.

Additionally, the rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, have been fined ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.

With this win, Gujarat Titans (GT) have climbed to the top of the IPL table with four wins from five matches, while Rajasthan Royals (RR) have slipped to seventh place, managing only two wins and three losses in as many games.
