AICC General Secretary Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain, alongside JKPCC President Sh Tariq Hameed Karra and CLP Leader Shri G.A. Mir, led an important discussion at the Voter Adhikar Samelan in Uri, Baramulla district on October 14, 2023. The event aimed to raise awareness about voter rights among citizens and encourage active participation in the electoral process.

The Voter Adhikar Samelan, organized by former Minister Shri Taj Mohiuddin, saw participation from several esteemed leaders. Among them were former Minister G.M. Saroori and prominent MLAs including Nizamuddin Bhat, Irfan Lone, and Abdul Gani Khan. The gathering showcased a unified commitment among Congress leaders to empower voters and enhance democratic engagement.

Dr. Syed Naseer Hussain emphasized the vital role of informed voting in a democracy. He stated, “Every vote matters, and it is crucial for citizens to understand their rights and responsibilities.” His remarks resonated strongly with the attendees as he urged them to participate in the upcoming elections without any fear.

In his address, JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra expressed concern over voter apathy in the region. He said, “We must work together to ensure that every citizen is aware of their electoral rights. Engaging with voters is a collective responsibility that we must fulfill.” Karra’s call to action sought to inspire local leaders to engage their communities.

A significant turnout at the event, including senior Congress leaders such as S.S. Channi, Nissar Ahmad Mandoo, and Mir Iqbal, highlighted the Congress party’s commitment to enhancing voter rights. The leaders reiterated the party’s dedication to transparency and accountability in governance.

Several notable topics discussed included the importance of accessible voting facilities and the necessity of ensuring voter education. MLA Irfan Lone remarked, “Historical data shows that informed voters are more likely to participate. Therefore, we must focus on educating the electorate.” His insights pointed to the trend of increasing voter voter turnout when citizens fully understand their voting privileges.

The Voter Adhikar Samelan also provided a platform for attendees to voice their concerns regarding electoral processes, and many community members expressed optimism about the initiative. “This samelan is a step forward towards making our voices heard,” one attendee said.

As the nation gears up for upcoming elections, the Congress party’s focus on voter rights resonates deeply with the need for greater civic engagement. This samelan not only highlighted pressing electoral issues but also served as a reminder of the responsibility citizens hold in shaping their democracy through informed choices.
