Jammu, July 2: In today’s digital era, social media has emerged as one of the most powerful platforms for political communication and public outreach. Political parties are no longer relying solely on public rallies and traditional campaigning; they are increasingly using platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) to connect with millions of people. A look at the social media presence of the major political parties in Jammu & Kashmir shows that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has established a significantly stronger digital presence than the Congress.

According to publicly available figures, BJP Jammu & Kashmir has approximately 422,000 followers on Facebook, while J&K Congress has around 231,000 followers. On Instagram, the BJP has 267,000 followers, compared to only 8,790 followers for the Congress. Similarly, on X (formerly Twitter), the BJP has 125,000 followers, while the Congress has approximately 29,200 followers.

The difference is not limited to follower count alone. The BJP also appears to maintain a stronger digital presence through regular posts, videos, reels, live updates, and online campaigns. In comparison, the Congress’s digital activity appears relatively limited, which may affect its ability to reach a wider audience.

Political observers believe that today’s youth consume a significant portion of their news and information through social media. Therefore, maintaining a strong digital presence has become essential for every political party. A party with limited activity or reach on social media may find it more difficult to effectively engage young voters and first-time voters.

This raises an important question: Can the Jammu & Kashmir Congress strengthen its social media strategy? Will the party be able to expand its digital presence and effectively connect with young people and the wider public? The coming months will reveal how the Congress plans to address this challenge and improve its outreach in the digital space.

Note: This report is based on publicly visible follower counts on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter). These figures are subject to change over time.
