Mathura police arrested a man named Sunit alias “Katua” on Friday for allegedly threatening the life of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The resident of Nagla Hardayal in the Mant area used social media to issue the alarming threat.

In a viral video that has circulated widely, Sunit brandished a pistol while declaring his intention to shoot the Chief Minister by September 25, further adding that he would take his own life afterward.

Alongside the deadly threat, Sunit displayed a magazine containing nine bullets, insisting that he would “fire all nine.” He alleged that his previous complaints to the Chief Minister’s office failed to elicit any response, pushing him to resort to such drastic measures.

On Friday evening, police attempted to apprehend Sunit at his residence. Upon arrival, they found him barricaded inside, armed and threatening to shoot from a third-floor window. After almost an hour-long standoff, law enforcement successfully subdued and arrested him.

Officers seized a pistol along with live cartridges during the operation. Local residents noted that Sunit had exhibited signs of mental distress, frequently voicing his personal troubles and showing increasingly erratic behavior in the months leading up to this incident.

The viral nature of the video prompted immediate action from law enforcement. Authorities are now probing how Sunit acquired the firearm and evaluating his motives for issuing such threats.

Sunit faces numerous charges including criminal intimidation, attempting to incite violence, and illegal possession of firearms. The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety, especially when it involves threats against government officials.

Further investigation continues as authorities work to fully understand this alarming incident and prevent such occurrences in the future.
