The Poshan Project Kot Bhalwal, alongside the Ramakrishna Mission Medical Centre and Government Ayurvedic Hospital, kicked off the 8th Rashtriya POSHAN MAAH 2025 with a special awareness camp in Jammu. This initiative, held in early September, focused on key nutrition themes relevant to the local community.
The event, attended by local officials and community members, set out to address issues such as obesity, promote local food initiatives (‘Vocal for Local’), and enhance awareness about healthy eating practices for infants and young children.
Community Leaders Reinforce Health Importance
The program was inaugurated by Sh. Sher Singh, the Additional District Development Commissioner of Jammu. He was joined by honored guests including Swami Yajnadharananda Ji, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, and Sh. Pankaj Anand, District Programme Officer of Mission POSHAN Jammu. Their presence amplified the event’s focus on community health and nutrition.
“Right nutrition is vital,” emphasized Sh. Sher Singh, highlighting the importance of educating the community about dietary needs for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
Engaging Activities Foster Awareness
The event featured several engaging activities aimed at promoting awareness and education about health. Participants enjoyed expert speeches, a ‘Swasth Balak Pratiyogita’ (Healthy Child Competition), and creative activities such as Rangoli making.
In addition, nutrition stalls and a health check-up camp provided free consultations and distributed essential medicines. Attendees benefitted from interactions that stressed the significance of nutrition in our daily lives.
Sh. Pankaj Anand further added, “This month-long celebration of Poshan Maah is crucial for spreading awareness and engaging the entire community in health initiatives.”
Holistic Living Focus for Future Initiatives
Swami Yajnadharananda Ji delivered a keynote that broadened the discussion beyond diet. He emphasized the spiritual and social significance of health, nutrition, and holistic lifestyle. His commitment to participate in future health initiatives signals a strong partnership for community upliftment.
As the program drew to a close, Sh. Mohit Bharti, the CDPO of Kot Bhalwal, expressed gratitude towards all collaborators for making the event successful. He encouraged continued community efforts in embracing the theme ‘Eat Right for a Healthy Life.’
He articulated hopes that outcomes from Poshan Maah reach far beyond the festivities, spurring a deeper awareness of healthy habits across the region.
Goals of the Celebration
The health camp was centered around several core themes:
- Addressing Obesity
- Men’s Involvement in Nutrition and Care
- Environmental Campaign for Sustainable Practices
- ‘Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi’ – Nutrition along with Education
