A war today is not just fought by soldiers but by the entire nation, including space, cyber, and information warriors, said Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Monday. He emphasized that all “citizen warriors” bear great responsibility in ensuring national security.

Speaking at the inauguration of the new campus of Softvision College, General Dwivedi cited the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war to illustrate his point.

“Commitment towards the nation always remains unwavering. However, war is no longer limited to the military alone; it is fought by the entire nation. When the nation fights, everyone plays an important role—whether they are space warriors, cyber warriors, information warriors, or indirect supporters,” the Army Chief stated.

He further highlighted how the Russia-Ukraine conflict has demonstrated the involvement of an entire nation’s populace in war efforts. “In Ukraine, every citizen has been fighting this war as a responsible soldier,” he asserted.

Army’s Vision for ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’

General Dwivedi reaffirmed the Indian Army’s commitment to achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. He outlined a structured roadmap leading up to this milestone:

  1. Decade of Transformation (till 2032): Modernizing and transforming the armed forces into a technologically advanced entity.
  2. Decade of Consolidation (till 2037): Strengthening and integrating these advancements.
  3. Decade of Excellence (till 2047): Achieving superior operational effectiveness and global recognition.

Youth as a Pillar of National Development

Highlighting the Army’s contributions to education across various domains—ranging from schools to professional colleges in law, IT, medical, nursing, and hotel management—General Dwivedi underscored the significance of India’s vast youth population.

“India has a massive youth demographic, and it must be harnessed effectively for national progress. The younger generation should embrace education with positivity and a sense of social responsibility,” he urged.

Asserting that national security is a shared responsibility, the Army Chief called upon all citizens to remain vigilant and contribute to strengthening the country’s resilience in the face of emerging threats
