The Indian Railways Departments plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express service from Jammu to Srinagar to improve regional connectivity. This development comes as part of an effort to enhance transportation options for pilgrims and tourists in the region.
Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed the extension plan and stated that preparations are underway to facilitate this semi-high-speed service. The extension aims to address the needs of travelers while boosting local tourism.
Kumar explained that the progress faced delays due to significant damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and incessant rains. “We are working on it. The delay occurred because of massive damage to tracks due to floods and heavy rains. But sooner or later, this service will be available to the people of Jammu,” he noted, assuring the public that restoration work is proceeding rapidly.
The Vande Bharat Express, introduced earlier this year, operates between Katra and Srinagar, significantly reducing the travel time between the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and the Valley. With its extension to Jammu, the service is poised to further enhance the connectivity for commuters and contribute to the tourism infrastructure.
Once operational, the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat is set to run daily, offering improved travel comfort. Its modern features and speed will cut journey times, providing a more efficient alternative to existing rail and road services.
Railway experts anticipate that this extension will not only benefit everyday commuters but also boost the local economy by attracting more tourists to the culturally rich regions of Jammu and Kashmir. Enhanced connectivity will encourage pilgrimage to the region’s famous religious sites and promote tourism activities.
