On Monday, police made significant strides in the fight against drug trafficking, recovering over one kilogram of charas and arresting two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Shopian and Budgam districts.

In Shopian, police acted on specific intelligence leading to a major recovery. The Police Station Zainapora registered FIR No. 77/2025 under the NDPS Act. With a search warrant granted by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian, officers launched a raid at the residence of Gh. Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, located in Humhuna Nagbal.

“During the search, one kilogram of charas-like substance and a grinder machine allegedly used for processing contraband were seized. The accused is absconding, and efforts are underway to arrest him,” police reported.

Separately, a police team from Police Post Wachi intercepted a suspect at a checkpoint in Naghard Wachi. The individual, identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Gh. Hassan Sheikh of Pombia Kulgam, had in his possession 101 grams of charas-like substance. Following this incident, police registered a fresh case, FIR No. 78/2025 under the NDPS Act, at Police Station Zainapora.

Meanwhile, in Budgam district, another significant arrest took place during a routine naka checking at Checkpora Kralpora. The accused, Moomin Qadir Dhobi, son of Gh. Qadir Dhobi from Dharambugh Kralpora, was found carrying 112 grams of charas-like substance. This led to the registration of FIR No. 173/2025 under the NDPS Act at Police Station Chadoora, with investigations continuing into his activities.

These operations reflect the ongoing commitment of local law enforcement agencies to combat drug-related crime in Jammu and Kashmir. Officials assert that drug peddling poses a severe threat to society, and they continue to enhance surveillance and intelligence operations.

As society grapples with the adverse effects of substance abuse, the police’s proactive measures aim to deter illegal drug activities in the region. The successful seizures and arrests mark significant steps toward fostering safer communities.
