RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday emphasized the significance of ‘vyakti nirman’ or character building, during the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary celebrations at the annual Vijayadashami function in Nagpur. Despite political allurements, Bhagwat affirmed the organization’s commitment to its founding mission over the past 100 years.

Addressing thousands of swayamsevaks, Bhagwat shared insights gathered from the RSS’s century-long journey. He asserted that any reforms in the global order must happen gradually to avoid destruction. “India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world,” he stated.

Bhagwat elaborated on the concept of dharma, clarifying that it transcends mere worship or rituals. Instead, he portrayed it as a uniting principle that connects people from various backgrounds. He advocated for social transformation through real-life examples of integrity and selflessness, which the RSS aims to promote through its local shakhas.

“Over the last 100 years, the RSS has faced temptations to enter politics but has remained true to its character-building mission,” he stressed.

Labeling vyakti nirman as the correct approach for sustainable social change, Bhagwat mentioned it aligns with the collective experiences of the organization’s members. He underscored India’s richness in diversity—languages, faith, and traditions—asserting that this pluralism is a source of strength for the nation.

“All communities, including those who have adopted foreign religions, are integral to the larger Indian identity,” he emphasized, calling for harmony, mutual respect, and a firm rejection of violence.

In a strong critique of communal disharmony, Bhagwat expressed his disapproval of hooliganism and urged law enforcement to act without bias. He encouraged society, especially the youth, to stay vigilant and organized, reminding them of their role in maintaining peace and harmony.
