NAGPUR, Nov 6: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday affirmed his commitment to implementing a caste census across India, stating that it would reveal the longstanding injustices faced by Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis. Speaking at the Samvidhan Samman Sammelan in Nagpur, Gandhi highlighted that the caste census would illuminate the power dynamics and representation in society. “It will show everyone where they stand and clarify our role,” he emphasized.
Gandhi described the caste census as a critical tool for inclusive development and vowed to push for breaking the existing 50% reservation cap, aiming for greater representation for marginalized communities. “We are committed to securing justice for over 90% of the country’s marginalized population,” he asserted.
Addressing the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Gandhi stressed that the Constitution is more than just a legal document—it is a blueprint for an equitable society. He accused the RSS and BJP of attacking the Constitution, stating, “When they undermine the Constitution, they silence the voice of the nation.”
He also criticized the lack of diversity in corporate leadership, specifically citing Adani’s management as an example of exclusion, with no representation from Dalits, OBCs, or Adivasis. Gandhi questioned the government’s priorities, pointing out that while massive debts for a few industrialists were waived, similar relief for struggling farmers was discouraged.
