Indian Air Force neutralises threat; thousands flee as shelling intensifies in North Kashmir
In an alarming escalation, Pakistani drones targeted Srinagar Airport, Awantipora Air Base, and the Garrison town of Baramulla tonight. The Indian Air Force swiftly activated countermeasures, neutralising multiple drones as panic gripped the Kashmir Valley.
Blasts Rock Srinagar, Awantipora:
Dozens of blasts were reported at Koil Air Base in Awantipora and 10 blasts near Srinagar Airport. Blackouts were enforced valley-wide, and mosque loudspeakers urged residents to switch off lights.
Army Engaged in Baramulla:
The Baramulla Garrison, housing the Army’s Division HQ, came under a two-hour drone assault. The Army reported successful interceptions, with no casualties or major damage.
Mass Exodus from Uri, Kupwara:
Over 10,000 people fled from Uri as heavy artillery shelling killed one woman and injured five. At least 48 homes were damaged, especially in Gingal. Hundreds of families were relocated from Karnah, Keran, Machil, and other frontier areas.
✈️ AIRPORTS SHUT, FLIGHTS CANCELLED AMID TENSIONS
For the third consecutive day, authorities have closed Srinagar, Jammu, and Leh airports until May 14. The Jammu & Kashmir Haj Committee canceled tomorrow’s pilgrimage flight SG-5210, leaving hundreds of pilgrims in uncertainty.
“So far, four Haj flights and over 250 commercial flights have been canceled, including 84 yesterday,” officials said.
🏫 SCHOOLS, COLLEGES CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICE
All schools and colleges across the Valley will remain closed until Monday. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated a reopening decision will be taken after the holiday.
🔴 CITIZENS ADVISED TO REMAIN INDOORS
Officials urged residents, especially near border areas, to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary movement, and follow safety instructions.
