Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, called for a strong and united approach to preserve the rich tribal heritage of the Pir Panjal region during the Tribal Mela held today at Sagra, Mendhar (Poonch). His remarks illustrated the importance of safeguarding cultural identities while pursuing development.
Speaking at the event organized by the Tribal Affairs Department in collaboration with the District Administration, Rana asserted that development must not come at the cost of cultural erosion. He highlighted the urgency of an integrative approach that harmonizes progress with tradition.
“Unchecked modern influences could dilute our tribal customs and moral frameworks,” Rana warned. He reiterated the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to promote inclusive development, aiming to build a resilient, self-reliant tribal society deeply rooted in traditions.
Rana praised the efforts of the Tribal Affairs Department and local administration for organizing the Tribal Mela, describing it as a meaningful step towards development with dignity. The mela served as a vibrant platform for locals to engage with their heritage.
The event drew a significant turnout, showcasing an array of tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. Attendees explored stalls featuring indigenous cuisines, medicinal plants, and healthcare knowledge systems, reflecting the depth of tribal culture.
In addition to the cultural exhibitions, a free medical camp offered essential consultations and services to attendees, demonstrating the government’s commitment to holistic community wellbeing.
Rana stressed that the government aims to ensure that development policies remain anchored in the lived realities of tribal communities. The celebration of culture and heritage stands as a testament to this approach.
Notable figures like Chairperson DDC Poonch Tazeem Akhtar and Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma attended the occasion, alongside enthusiastic locals, further emphasizing the event’s community-oriented spirit.
