Jammu and Kashmir Police have successfully cracked down on a theft gang operating across the Nagrota sub-division, recovering stolen property worth approximately ₹81 lakh.

Addressing a press conference at Police Station Nagrota, SP Jammu Rural, Brijesh Kumar Sharma, revealed that the gang was involved in a series of thefts, targeting mobile tower radio units, electric wires, and gold ornaments from various areas under the jurisdiction of the sub-division.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs and with efficient coordination, the police launched swift operations that led to the arrest of multiple suspects.

In one major breakthrough, Jhajjar Kotli Police arrested four individuals who admitted to stealing 23 mobile tower radio units (RUS 01 BO), each valued between ₹2.5 to ₹2.7 lakh. The total value of the recovered equipment is estimated to be around ₹61 lakh.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Basant Kumar (Nagrota)
  • Ranjeet Singh and Devi Chand (Reasi)

The same investigation also helped solve two separate gold theft cases in Nagrota and Jhajjar Kotli, resulting in the recovery of gold ornaments worth ₹11 lakh. In the Nagrota case, the accused—Sartaz Ahmed alias Kaka of Asrarabad Sidhra—has been arrested and is currently out on bail. The accused in the Jhajjar Kotli theft case is still at large.

Further, two cases of electric wire theft were also solved. In the first case, LTAB cables worth ₹7 lakh were recovered from Nagrota. In the second, wires worth ₹2 lakh were retrieved from the Sidhra area.

In total, stolen property valued at ₹81 lakh was recovered during the operation, marking a major success for the Jammu Rural Police.
