Illegal Land Sale, Police Inaction in Land Dispute raises questions Jammu, April 9:

A troubling case involving alleged illegal land transactions, encroachment, and repeated violent attacks has emerged in Lale Da Bagh, Jammu. The dispute centers around 4.5 kanals of ancestral land, which has been under litigation since 2012. Despite multiple court orders upholding a status quo in favor of Mr. Brij Raj Singh, blatant violations have continued unchecked, raising serious concerns about law enforcement and judicial enforcement.
According to legal heirs, Brij Bhushan—who lacks rightful ownership—illegally sold 54 marlas of the disputed land to Rekha Devi (wife of suspended DMO Kathua, Bodh Raj Bhagat) and others through a fraudulent registry executed in February 2023, while the matter was still sub judice. Authorities reportedly failed to intervene or halt the sale despite the ongoing legal proceedings.
On October 23, 2024, Brij Raj Singh and his son, Harshvardhan Singh, were reportedly attacked while working on the land. The assailants included Bodh Raj Bhagat, Rekha Devi, and a group of hired individuals. The attackers allegedly robbed them of a gold chain and an iPhone 14. A complaint was lodged at Domana Police Station, but no substantial action followed, prompting the victims to seek court intervention once again.
The situation escalated further on February 1, 2025, when Brij Raj Singh, his wife, and son were assaulted a second time while attempting to sow crops. In an act of self-defense, Mr. Singh fired a warning shot into the air. A video of the incident later went viral, showing no fencing on the land at the time. However, following the attack, Rekha Devi and Bodh Raj allegedly erected fencing overnight, installing streetlights and surveillance cameras to assert control over the property.
The legal heirs—Brij Raj Singh, Harshvardhan Singh, and Daizy Jamwal—have called for immediate action against the accused: Brij Bhushan, Rekha Devi Bhagat, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Kishore Kumar, Rajkumar Bhagat, Seema Bhagat, and Arti Bhagat. They allege a pattern of illegal land sales, physical assaults, theft, and unlawful occupation—despite standing court orders.
The family has appealed to law enforcement and judicial authorities to uphold the rule of law, provide protection to the rightful heirs, and initiate appropriate legal action against the offenders.
