GMC Jammu Issues Advisory for Dengue Management

Jammu, September 26: Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospitals, Jammu have issued a public advisory for the management of Dengue cases as seasonal fever cases rise in the region.

Key Guidelines for the Public

Report early: Visit GMC Jammu in case of fever with symptoms such as severe headache, pain behind eyes, joint/muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, or rashes.

Emergency warning signs: Severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, or difficulty breathing require immediate hospitalization.

Adults: Consult GMC Medicine OPD (9 AM–2 PM) or GMC Emergency (after 2 PM).

Children: Consult SMGS Paediatric OPD (9 AM–2 PM) or Paediatric Emergency, Ward No. 18 (after 2 PM).

Hospital Facilities Prepared

Dedicated wards for adults and children at GMC and SMGS hospitals.

24×7 laboratory testing available, including:

NS1 ELISA (within 5 days of fever)

IgM ELISA (after 5 days of fever)

RT-PCR for advanced, accurate diagnosis

Complete blood counts and platelet counts

Platelet stock has been ensured. Transfusion will only be done when medically advised.

Home Management Advice

Most Dengue cases do not require hospitalization.

Rest, take fluids, and use paracetamol as prescribed.

Monitor symptoms and report to hospital if condition worsens.

Hospital Management Advice

Follow doctors’ instructions and cooperate with hospital staff.

Do not leave hospital without medical advice.

Avoid demanding platelet transfusion unless recommended by doctors.

Special Advisory for High-Risk Patients

Patients with diabetes, kidney, or liver diseases must be extra cautious and report to the hospital without delay if fever or other symptoms appear.

Administration’s Assurance

“GMC Jammu is fully prepared to handle Dengue cases with adequate facilities, staff, and platelets,” the advisory stated. “The public is urged to cooperate, get tested in case of fever, and follow medical advice.”
