Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the vibrant participation of voters in West Bengal, describing it as a fearless atmosphere during the assembly elections. On Wednesday, he noted that such participation was unimaginable over the past six or seven decades.
As of today, voting is currently underway in 142 constituencies of West Bengal during the second and final phase of polling. Modi’s remarks came during his speech at the inauguration of the Ganga Expressway.
Modi pointed out, “Voting for the second phase is underway in Bengal, and reports indicate a massive turnout. Images of long queues at polling stations are flooding social media, reflecting the enthusiasm of the people to exercise their democratic right.”
The Prime Minister heralded the day as significant in the festival of democracy, underscoring that what is happening in Bengal today symbolizes a major shift in the political dynamics of the state.
“What we are witnessing in Bengal today is unprecedented; it was difficult to imagine this fearless environment where people are voting without fear,” he stated, expressing his gratitude towards the electorate.
Modi’s comments highlight a notable transformation in West Bengal’s electoral landscape, where fear often overshadowed free and fair voting. “This active participation is a powerful symbol of the country’s Constitution and the strengthening of democracy,” he added.
The Prime Minister asserted that the upcoming assembly poll results, which will be announced on May 4, will further strengthen India’s resolve toward development. He stated, “I express my gratitude to the great people of Bengal for being so aware of their rights and participating in large numbers.”
With the final phase of polling underway, experts predict that this democratic awakening could potentially reshape the future of political engagement in West Bengal.
The enthusiasm exhibited by the electorate in both phases of polling denotes a significant turning point in West Bengal’s political history. As citizens cast their votes this time with confidence, analysts anticipate the implications these elections will have on governance and civic participation in the state.
