Creating history and bringing immense pride to the Union Territory, the Jammu & Kashmir Girls Fencing Team clinched the Bronze Medal in the Sabre Team Event at the 7th Khelo India Youth Games 2025, currently underway in Bihar.

The medal-winning team featured a stellar lineup of young talents — International Fencer Subhanaya Sharma, Bhavya Jamwal, Eknoor Kour, and Aahana Gupta — who demonstrated exemplary skill, coordination, and an indomitable spirit throughout the tournament. Their balanced approach, marked by strategic aggression and calm execution, earned them a well-deserved spot on the podium in what was one of the most fiercely contested categories.

The team’s success was made possible with the support of Surjeet Kour, who accompanied the fencers as team manager, providing vital guidance and motivation throughout the competition.

The achievement was met with enthusiastic appreciation from the sports community and beyond. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, extended heartfelt congratulations to the athletes and their families, commending the girls for their dedication, discipline, and commitment to excellence. She called their victory an inspiring milestone for young athletes across the Union Territory.

Vijay Kumar, President, and Javed Choudhary, General Secretary of the J&K Fencing Association, expressed immense pride in the team’s performance. They emphasized that this victory marks a significant chapter in the growth of fencing in Jammu & Kashmir and highlighted the potential of the region’s youth to shine on national and international platforms.

International fencer Rashid Ahmed Choudhary, Adv. Supriya Chouhan, and sports mentor Maninder Pal Singh also applauded the young champions. They described the medal as a proud moment not only for the fencing community but for the entire Union Territory, reinforcing that with proper support and training, athletes from J&K can excel at the highest levels.

The remarkable feat of the J&K Girls Fencing Team at the Khelo India Youth Games stands as a testament to their perseverance, talent, and the rising trajectory of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
