Congress Accuses BJP-RSS of Conspiracy to Silence Rahul Gandhi

The Congress party on Monday intensified its criticism of the BJP-RSS over a former ABVP leader’s troubling remarks directed at Rahul Gandhi. They claim those losing the ideological battle are conspiring to silence the Leader of Opposition. The allegations arise after Printu Mahadev, a former president of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), issued a chilling threat to Gandhi.

During a televised debate, Mahadev suggested that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest.’ This statement elicited a strong reaction from Congress, with party spokesperson Pawan Khera vehemently condemning the threat. He highlighted the inaction from authorities following such egregious remarks, saying, “A BJP spokesperson said on TV that ‘Rahul Gandhi will be shot in the chest’ and no action has been taken.”

Khera criticized the politicization of Gandhi’s security measures, expressing concern over the implications. “Before this, the CRPF wrote a letter to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge regarding Rahul Gandhi’s safety, only to leak the content. This raises serious questions about the motives behind such actions,” he said.

The Congress spokesperson labeled the threats as an obvious conspiracy against Gandhi, stating, “Those perpetuating this must be named. They are the same people losing the ideological battle, lacking the intellectual capacity to counter opposing views.” Khera underscored that the attempts to silence Gandhi through violence must be publicly exposed.

Khera accused the ruling party of being unable to accept the growing popularity of Gandhi, whose messages resonate with the populace from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He stated, “Your theft has been caught red-handed, and you know your time has passed,” referring to accusations of vote rigging against the BJP.

Additionally, Congress general secretary K C Venugopal wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding action against Mahadev’s death threat. Venugopal warned that the failure to address such statements would indicate complicity in endorsing violence against opposition leaders. He considered the remarks by Mahadev a direct incitement of violence and an assault on the democratic ideals represented by Gandhi.

“This is neither a slip of the tongue nor careless hyperbole; it is a calculated death threat against one of India’s foremost political leaders,” Venugopal asserted. He added that such verbal attacks not only endanger Gandhi’s life but also undermine constitutional values and security for all citizens.

Venugopal emphasized the need for clarity from the BJP regarding their stance on such threats. “Do you openly endorse the politics of criminal intimidation, death threats, and violence that are poisoning India’s public life?” he questioned. He described the threat as part of a broader atmosphere of hostility and hate aimed at undermining the opposition.

Highlighting the significance of a swift and decisive response, Venugopal stated, “The nation demands immediate, exemplary legal action through the state police so that justice is swift, visible, and severe.” He concluded his address by reiterating that the attack on Gandhi is not merely an individual threat but an attack on the democratic framework that he represents.

The Congress party’s strong stance against the BJP-RSS allegations is emblematic of the escalating tensions in Indian politics. As the opposition continues to voice concerns over political violence and intimidation, the implications for India’s democratic processes remain a crucial conversation in the current political landscape. This latest confrontation underlines the persistent challenges faced by opposition leaders in expressing their opinions freely.
