NEW DELHI, Nov 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President-elect Donald Trump have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and the United States, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the MEA detailed the phone conversation held between Modi and Trump a day earlier. The Prime Minister congratulated Trump on his “spectacular and resounding victory,” emphasizing that the election results reflected the “deep trust” of the American people in his leadership and vision. Modi also extended congratulations to Trump for the Republican Party’s success in the Congressional elections.
The leaders discussed expanding cooperation in several key areas, including technology, defence, energy, and space, and emphasized the importance of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership for mutual benefit and global peace.
PM Modi also took to X on Wednesday night, sharing that he had a “great conversation” with his “friend” Trump. During the call, both leaders expressed their shared desire to continue building on the positive momentum of the India-US relationship, particularly recalling significant events such as the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston in September 2019 and the “Namaste Trump” event in Ahmedabad in February 2020.
Trump, who previously served as the 45th President of the United States, made a strong political comeback to win the 2024 election and will now serve as the 47th President of the US.
