Ramban, July 8: Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Imtiaz chaired a vital meeting today focused on disaster management and coordination at Gool. The gathering aimed to evaluate disaster preparedness and strengthen inter-departmental coordination as the monsoon season approaches.
The meeting attracted key officials including Tehsildar Harjeet Singh, SDPO Kuldeep Raj, and representatives from various departments like Health, Police, and the Jal Shakti department. With natural hazards like floods, landslides, and cloudbursts threatening the region, ensuring a reliable disaster management plan is essential.
SDM Imtiaz emphasized a thorough review of the current disaster management framework. This includes assessing the availability of resources, machinery, and the operational status of control rooms and communication systems in the sub-division. All line departments must remain vigilant during the critical monsoon season, which brings heightened risk of natural disasters.
“We must be on high alert and continuously monitor vulnerable areas prone to disasters,” said Imtiaz. He urged all departments to collaborate effectively, particularly with the Jal Shakti, PWD, and PMGSY departments tasked with identifying at-risk locations.
The health services sector received direct instructions to ensure a stockpile of essential medicines, ambulances, and medical personnel at Community Health Centre Gool and nearby health facilities. The Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department was tasked with maintaining sufficient ration stocks, while the Power Development Department (PDD) prepared back-up power supply solutions.
Regular assessments of vulnerable areas are essential. Imtiaz urged Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars to keep updated lists of disaster-prone zones and to cultivate public awareness regarding safety protocols. “Communities must be involved in safety initiatives; their participation can greatly enhance emergency responses,” he noted.
In his address, he also highlighted the role of law enforcement and military support units like 23 RR. These agencies will assist in rescue and evacuation operations, while representatives from Beacon were instructed to prioritize road restorations in case of blockades.
“The safety of lives and livelihood is our utmost priority,” SDM Imtiaz reiterated, stressing the importance of quick coordination and timely response in minimizing disaster impact. The administration is fully equipped to manage any challenge posed by nature, assuring residents of Gool that their government stands ready to assist in any emergency.
