PDP MLA Calls for Abolishing Reservation Policy in J&K, Labels It ‘Unjust’

SRINAGAR, Oct 30: PDP leader Waheed Para has demanded the abolition of the reservation policy in Jammu and Kashmir, arguing that it could undermine the long-term quality and competence of institutions. In a post on X, Para pointed out that the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) 2023 results revealed that only 40 percent of selected candidates were chosen on “open merit,” despite over 70 percent of the state’s population falling within the unreserved category.

Para’s remarks come in response to the list of candidates called for the Jammu and Kashmir Combined Competitive Examination 2023, which indicated that out of 71 candidates called for the medical exam, 42 belonged to reserved categories.

“The government must scrap this unjust policy that undermines merit and ensure that reservations reflect the true proportions of the population,” stated Para, an MLA from Pulwama. He emphasized, “J&K’s youth deserves inclusion, not exclusion. This issue extends beyond job opportunities; it threatens the long-term quality and competence of all our institutions.”
