Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today inaugurated the two-day Annual Sports Meet-2025 of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar at the Boys Hostel playground in Bemina.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister highlighted the crucial link between the physical and mental well-being of healthcare professionals and its impact on the overall quality of healthcare delivery. She commended GMC Srinagar for organizing the event and emphasized that sports and recreational activities are essential for stress management, particularly for students and professionals in demanding medical fields.
Minister Itoo urged the GMC administration to upgrade facilities at the Boys Hostel playground to encourage maximum student participation in extracurricular activities.
The two-day sports meet, planned and organized under the guidance of Chairman Sports Committee Dr. Salim Iqbal, features a variety of sporting and recreational events. These include cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, table tennis, carrom, tug of war, musical chair, as well as track and field events such as 100m, 200m, 400m, relay, shot put, javelin throw, and discus throw. Fun games like matka race, sack race, and spoon and egg race added energy to the program, fostering camaraderie and holistic well-being among medical professionals and students.
The event was attended by Principal Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, Administrator Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Heads of Departments, Medical Superintendents, faculty members, students, and staff.
