Jammu, 26th September 2025 — The National Commission for Women (NCW), led by Chairperson Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, conducted a significant initiative known as Mahila Jan Sunwai (also referred to as Rashtriya Mahila Ayog-Apke Dwar) today in Jammu, aimed at addressing women’s grievances through direct engagement and immediate resolution. This outreach event attracted numerous complainants eager to seek justice and assistance.
The Mahila Jan Sunwai exemplified the commitment of NCW to providing swift and effective solutions to the issues faced by women in the region. During the event, representatives from NCW resolved several complaints on the spot, offering not only relief but vital guidance to the affected individuals. “Our initiative today demonstrates that women’s grievances deserve immediate attention,” said Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar during the event. The Chairperson also applauded the Jammu & Kashmir Police for their exceptional assistance in facilitating the implementation of this initiative.
Expressing gratitude, the Jammu District Inspector General (DIG), Sh. Shiv Kumar, acknowledged the selection of Jammu as a pivotal venue for this outreach program. “This event marks a significant step in strengthening the institutional responsiveness of law enforcement agencies and fostering trust among citizens, particularly regarding matters of women’s safety and dignity,” he stated.
Following the outreach program, a review meeting took place with senior police and district administrative officials. Here, guidelines were issued to bolster existing plans aimed at enhancing women’s safety and security. This comprehensive discussion underscored the necessity for continued efforts in organizing further seminars and programs that prioritize women’s rights and address their grievances effectively.
A PowerPoint presentation presented by the Jammu DIG and the District Administration reinforced the safety measures and facilities currently available for women. It included insightful data on the prevention and detection of crimes against women, showcasing the commitment of authorities to tackle ongoing issues related to women’s safety.
The attendance of several senior officials at the event, including Sh. Rakesh Minhas (IAS, DC Jammu) and Sh. Joginder Singh (SSP Jammu), highlights the collaborative effort to promote a safe environment for women. The presence of officers such as Sh. Virender Manhas (SSP Samba) and Sh. Sandip Bhat (Addl. SP Udhampur) indicated a unified front in fighting for women’s rights and actively addressing their concerns.
