On October 13, 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 11th anniversary of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, emphasizing its significant contribution to the Indian economy and the nation’s journey towards self-reliance. Launched in 2014, this program has encouraged innovation and bolstered job creation across various sectors.

In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his elation at the initiative’s progress, stating, “It is gladdening to see how 11 Years Of Make In India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta.” He highlighted the initiative’s role in driving India’s growth and tapping into its vast entrepreneurial spirit.

The Prime Minister called for a renewed emphasis on indigenous production, reassuring stakeholders of the government’s support. “We must remain focused on becoming a ‘Swadeshi’ economy in our upcoming journey,” he asserted.

Addressing a large gathering at the launch of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, PM Modi underscored the government’s commitment to simplifying business processes. He stated, “The government has removed over 40,000 unnecessary compliances, and decriminalized more than a thousand laws to foster a thriving business environment.”

PM Modi emphasized the importance of manufacturing in India, stating, “We want everything from chip to ship to be made right here.” This call to action aligns with the initiative’s goal to position India as a global manufacturing hub.

On this momentous occasion, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal praised the initiative’s accomplishments, particularly in the domain of indigenous defence production. He noted, “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by the vision of PM Narendra Modi, we have achieved remarkable milestones in this sector.”

In a related success, India successfully launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile on the same day, showcasing advancements in homegrown defence technology. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated various agencies involved in this accomplishment, further affirming the success of the Make in India initiative.

The ‘Make in India’ initiative represents not just a policy but a movement aimed at transforming India’s manufacturing landscape. With a vision centered around bolstering indigenous capabilities, it has sparked significant changes in how businesses operate, paving the way for a stronger, self-reliant economy.

As the program enters its next phase, PM Modi’s administration remains committed to fine-tuning strategies that enhance India’s global manufacturing footprint. Stakeholders across sectors are poised to leverage this momentum, contributing to a resilient and robust economy.

With the combined efforts of the government and the private sector, the ‘Make in India’ initiative continues to shape the future of manufacturing in India, offering vast opportunities for innovation and economic growth.
