Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has announced Rajat Patidar as their captain for the upcoming IPL season, set to begin on March 21. Patidar, who was retained by the franchise ahead of last year’s mega auction, brings leadership experience to the team, having captained Madhya Pradesh in both the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and the Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI).

The 31-year-old right-hander, who joined RCB in 2022, had a standout season leading Madhya Pradesh to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Despite losing to Mumbai by five wickets in the final, Patidar’s leadership was widely recognized. He was also the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament, amassing 428 runs from 10 matches at an impressive average of 61 and a strike rate of 186.08. - Speculation Around Virat Kohli’s Role
Before the official announcement, there had been speculation that Virat Kohli might return as the captain of RCB. Kohli, who captained the team from 2013 to 2021, enjoyed a successful tenure, leading RCB in 143 matches, which is the second-longest captaincy stint in IPL history, only behind MS Dhoni of Chennai Super Kings. - Kohli’s Support for Patidar
Following Patidar’s appointment, Virat Kohli congratulated him in a video statement shared by RCB.
