Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) President, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, emphasized the significant shift in governance following the restoration of a democratic government under the leadership of Omar Abdullah. Addressing party functionaries at an event organized to felicitate Syed Tauqeer, the newly appointed Provincial Secretary of the NC, Dr. Abdullah underscored that the people have been liberated from bureaucratic red tape and an era of unaccountability.

The meeting was attended by several prominent figures, including Provincial President Adv Showkat Ahmad Mir, MLAs Shameem Firdous, Ahsan Pardesi, Salman Sagar, Mushtaq Guroo, former Minister Mohammad Khalil Bandh, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar, and SM Head Ifra Jan.

A New Era of Accountability:

Referring to the changes brought about by the democratically elected government under Omar Abdullah, Dr. Farooq noted that the people of Jammu and Kashmir were no longer treated as subjects under bureaucratic rule but as citizens to whom the government is directly accountable. He stated, “People no longer face the bureaucracy’s red tape. Now, individuals from all walks of life are able to visit the secretariat and have their issues addressed directly.”

Dr. Abdullah stressed the positive impact of having elected representatives in power, saying, “The people have breathed a sigh of relief knowing that their elected leaders are at the helm, working to meet their expectations and fulfill their promises.” He also reiterated the party’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the ongoing efforts to undo the developmental setbacks of the past decade.

Commitment to Progress:

Dr. Abdullah further assured the gathering that all the promises made in the party’s manifesto would be fulfilled without compromise. “Under Omar Abdullah’s leadership, the government is working on multiple fronts to restore our dignity and address developmental challenges,” he added. “The government is committed to progress, ensuring accountability, and improving the lives of all citizens.”

Highlighting the unity and sacrifices of the party’s members, Dr. Abdullah called upon party functionaries to prepare for the upcoming Urban Local Bodies and Panchayat elections. He emphasized the importance of including educated youth and women candidates in the electoral process, especially in light of the recent reservations for women in local governance. “Women and youth must play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our region through active participation in the democratic process,” he concluded.

The event was a clear demonstration of the NC’s determination to strengthen its grassroots base and prepare for the political challenges ahead, as the party continues to advocate for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and greater empowerment of its citizens.
