In a moment of national pride, two talented snow artists from Jammu and Kashmir represented India with distinction at the 2025 International Snow Sculpture Championship held in Breckenridge, Colorado. Zahoor Ahmad and Suhail Mohammad Khan clinched the bronze medal in the prestigious competition, bringing global recognition to Indian artistry.

Held from January 20 to 24, the event saw 12 teams from across the globe competing, including participants from the United States, Finland, Canada, Germany, and Mexico, showcasing their extraordinary craftsmanship. Despite facing stiff competition, the Indian team’s snow sculpture stood out, earning them a well-deserved third place.

An Extraordinary Achievement for Team India

  • Zahoor Ahmad, the team captain from Singpora Pattan in Jammu and Kashmir, and Suhail Mohammad Khan, a hearing and speech-impaired artist, represented India in this high-profile competition. Khan, who communicated through a team member, expressed his overwhelming joy despite his challenges:
“Although I cannot speak, I am incredibly happy with our win. This is my second time representing India, and I feel fulfilled,” said Khan, whose resilience and artistry played a pivotal role in the team’s success.
  • Zahoor Ahmad, reflecting on their journey, shared the arduous experience:
“This year, we competed in two major championships—one in Minnesota and one here in Colorado. The competition was fierce, with incredible artistry on display. Despite the freezing temperatures of -25°C to -35°C, we worked tirelessly for four days to secure third place,” said Ahmad.

A Vision for Snow Sculpture Tourism in India

Captain Ahmad also highlighted the potential for similar snow sculpture events to be held in India. He pointed to Gulmarg as an ideal location, where such international events could not only promote tourism but also bring attention to local artists. This, he believes, would further showcase the rich cultural heritage and artistic talent of the region.

International Recognition for Indian Artistry

The event’s 12 sculptures were evaluated by a panel of five judges, with teams from Germany and Mexico taking the top two spots. The Indian team’s achievement underscores the growing recognition of Indian talent in the global snow sculpture arena.

This bronze medal win marks a proud moment for Indian snow sculpture artistry, putting India on the map as a rising force in the world of snow art and inspiring future generations of artists from all corners of the country.
