In a significant move to restructure and promote the leadership within Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS), the Jammu and Kashmir Government has today announced the promotion of several senior officers. The promotions, which were cleared by a high-level committee earlier this week, are expected to have a substantial impact on the police administration and lead to a reshuffle in key posts.

Suhail Munawar Elevated to IGP-equivalent Rank

In a major development, Suhail Munawar, a 1999 batch officer, has been promoted to the IGP-equivalent rank. This prestigious promotion is a testament to his distinguished service and marks a milestone in his career.

Four Officers Promoted to DIG-equivalent

In addition to Munawar, four other officers from the 1999 batch have been promoted to the rank of DIG-equivalent. The officers receiving this elevation are:

  • Ramesh Kumar Angral
  • Mohd Arshad
  • Tahir Sajad Bhat
  • Imtiyaz Hussain Mir

These promotions will enhance the leadership of the police force and bring in new directions for the management of law enforcement in Jammu and Kashmir.

130 Officers Elevated to SP Selection Grade

Alongside the promotions to IGP and DIG ranks, 130 JKPS officers have been promoted to the Superintendent of Police Selection Grade (II)-Level 12 under the Pay Matrix. This significant elevation reflects the ongoing efforts of the Government to recognize and reward the hard work of the officers. Among the promoted officers are:

  • Suhail Munawar Mir
  • Ramesh Kumar Angral
  • Mohd Arshad
  • Tahir Sajad Bhat
  • Imtiyaz Hussain Mir
  • And many more, including Shailender Singh, Javid Iqbal, Rajinder Kumar Katoch, Sukhdev Raj, and Ravinder Paul Singh among others.

The full list of officers promoted includes individuals from various regions of Jammu and Kashmir, demonstrating a balanced and wide-ranging promotion within the force.

Reshuffle and New Postings Expected After January 26

The promotion of these officers is expected to lead to a reshuffle in the police administration, as several key posts will become vacant. With the promotions announced, changes in posting are imminent, but sources indicate that the reshuffle will likely take place after January 26, following the Republic Day celebrations.

IGP and DIG-equivalent Posts Reserved for JKPS Officers

As per the newly implemented Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Services Recruitment Rules, 2024, there are two IGP-equivalent posts and six DIG-equivalent posts reserved specifically for JKPS officers. However, two promotion proposals were placed in a sealed cover for future consideration, and the final posting orders will follow after further assessments.

Key Posts for JKPS Officers

Some of the high-profile positions available for the newly promoted IGP and DIG officers include:

  • Commissioner Civil Military Liaison
  • Commissioner Investigations Human Rights
  • Special Director, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB)
  • Director, Civil Defence & SDRF Kashmir
  • Director Home Guards Jammu/Kashmir
  • Additional Director State Investigation Agency (SIA)
  • Director Commando Training Centre (CTC) Lethpora

These roles come with specific eligibility criteria, including 18 years of service for Directors and 22 years of service for Commissioners.

A Bright Future for Jammu and Kashmir Police

These promotions are a significant step toward strengthening the police force and ensuring a more effective administration in Jammu and Kashmir. The reshuffle and elevation of officers will bring fresh perspectives and ideas to the leadership, ensuring that law enforcement continues to serve the people with integrity and dedication.
