Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 26: Glowing tributes were paid on Thursday to three brave soldiers from Karnataka who tragically lost their lives in an accident in Jammu and Kashmir on December 24. The solemn occasion was marked with deep respect and military honors at the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre (MLIRC) in Belagavi.

The soldiers, Anoop Pujari (33) from Kundapura, Mahesh Nagappa Marigond (25) from Bagalkote, and Dayanand Thirakannavar (44) from Belagavi, were among five personnel killed when their vehicle plunged into a gorge in Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir. All three hailed from the prestigious 11 Maratha Light Infantry.

Their mortal remains were flown to Belagavi on Thursday, where they were received with utmost respect. A military honor ceremony was conducted at the MLIRC, attended by state officials, military personnel, and grieving families. The ceremony showcased the unwavering respect the nation holds for its soldiers who sacrifice their lives in the line of duty.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Pays Homage

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, currently in Belagavi, laid a wreath on the mortal remains of the soldiers and offered his heartfelt tribute. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister expressed his sorrow, saying, “I am deeply pained to learn about the untimely deaths of our brave soldiers. Their sacrifice for the nation will always be remembered. I pray for their souls to rest in peace and extend my condolences to their grieving families.”

The Nation Mourns Its Heroes

As the bugle played the last post, family members and colleagues of the fallen soldiers stood in solemn silence, their hearts heavy with grief and pride. The soldiers’ commitment to safeguarding the nation’s security was remembered with reverence.

The sacrifice of Anoop Pujari, Mahesh Nagappa Marigond, and Dayanand Thirakannavar is a stark reminder of the dangers faced by our armed forces as they work tirelessly to defend the nation. The accident in the rugged terrains of Poonch district has left an indelible mark on their communities and the state of Karnataka.

A Legacy of Valor

The Maratha Light Infantry, to which the soldiers belonged, is one of the oldest and most distinguished regiments of the Indian Army. Known for their courage and discipline, its members have consistently demonstrated their commitment to duty and country.

As Karnataka bids a tearful farewell to its heroes, their legacy of valor and service will continue to inspire future generations. Events like these underscore the importance of recognizing and honoring the sacrifices made by the armed forces in protecting the nation’s sovereignty and peace.
