Sports Minister, Advisor to CM flag off J&K Senior Football team for Santosh Trophy

In a momentous occasion for Jammu and Kashmir football, the state’s senior men’s football team was flagged off today for the final round of the prestigious Santosh Trophy. The event was held at the Mini Stadium, Parade, Jammu, with the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, and the Advisor to Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, gracing the occasion.

The ceremony saw a large turnout of sports officials and dignitaries, including Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary, Youth Services and Sports; Tara Singh, Director General, Youth Services and Sports; and Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council. The occasion was further marked by a friendly football match between the J&K Police Team and the J&K Santosh Trophy Team, offering a glimpse of the team’s preparation and skill.

Team Set to Compete in Telangana

The J&K senior football team will now head to Telangana, where they will compete against the country’s best teams in the final round of the Santosh Trophy. The team is looking to make a strong mark in the tournament and showcase the immense football talent emerging from the region.

Sports Kits Distributed to Athletes

In a gesture of encouragement, the Sports Minister and Advisor to CM distributed sports kits to athletes from various Khelo India Centres, ensuring that the players are well-equipped for their upcoming challenges. This move is in line with the government’s ongoing efforts to promote sports and youth development in the region.

Government’s Commitment to Sports Development

Speaking at the event, Satish Sharma, the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering sports talent in Jammu and Kashmir. “The Santosh Trophy is a significant milestone for our state’s football players, and we are fully backing them in their journey. We are working tirelessly to provide the best facilities and support to our athletes,” Sharma said.

Nasir Aslam Wani, the Advisor to the Chief Minister, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the importance of football in promoting unity and nurturing sports talent in the region. “Football is more than just a game—it brings together communities and represents the aspirations of the youth. We stand by our players and are confident that they will perform exceptionally well in the upcoming Santosh Trophy,” Wani said.

The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council continues to play a vital role in the growth of football in the region, with strategic initiatives aimed at providing young athletes with the necessary resources and exposure to excel.
