GMC Doda OPD Slips Lacking Senior Resident Identification to See Improvements

Doda, November 28: In a recent development at Government Medical College (GMC) Doda, it was observed that OPD slips issued across various departments do not include the names of senior residents responsible for patient check-ups. This absence of identification on OPD slips has raised concerns about transparency and accountability in patient care, raising questions on both legal and ethical grounds.

When contacted by phone, GMC Doda Principal Dr. Rakesh acknowledged the issue and assured that necessary measures would be taken. Dr. Rakesh emphasized the importance of patient identification and trust, stating that future OPD slips would include the names of senior residents and other essential details. He affirmed that these changes aim to enhance patient care quality and ensure that all necessary parameters are met for improved healthcare service delivery at GMC Doda.

Importance of Including Doctors’ Names on OPD Slips
Listing the names of doctors on OPD slips is essential to ensure that patients are aware of who is treating them, thus fostering transparency and trust. This identification allows patients to easily trace their treating doctor for follow-ups and provides accountability for the medical care delivered. Such transparency is especially crucial in complex cases where continuity of care with a specific practitioner is vital for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

Legal Framework and Compliance Requirements:
In India, the Medical Council of India (MCI) guidelines—now governed by the National Medical Commission (NMC)—stipulate that all medical documents, including OPD slips, should carry the name and registration number of the doctor responsible. This requirement is part of the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations, 2002, designed to uphold accountability and prevent unauthorized medical practices. Additionally, compliance with these regulations ensures that healthcare institutions adhere to standardized practices nationwide.

By implementing these updates, GMC Doda will not only align with legal requirements but also enhance the quality of care and accountability provided to patients.
